FFLIC’s youth organizers have led direct actions across the state as part of our #NoMorePrisons campaign, including efforts to stop the transfer of youth to the adult Louisiana State Correctional Facility at Angola. FFLIC’s youth-led #NoMorePrisons campaign is dedicated to closing youth prisons, advocating for restorative community-based alternatives, and putting youth at the forefront of advocacy and organizing efforts to transform the youth justice system. FFLIC builds leadership for directly impacted youth and their families, providing training and political education, supporting youth to develop their personal narratives, and offering myriad opportunities for youth to speak truth to power in media, at power tables, through direct actions, and in community forums. The #NMP is part of Youth First Justice Collaborative’s (YFJC) national movement of over 15 states building youth power to lead the charge for community-based solutions to incarceration.

FFLIC currently has Lead Youth Organizers on staff, utilizing their years of experience with FFLIC to support the next generation of youth coming up. These roles are essential in building ongoing youth leadership capacity and representational youth power at decision-making bodies throughout the state. Our existing youth leadership programs include Black Girls Rising (BGR), and our spinoff youth organization, Black Man Rising (BMR).

Opportunities for youth include trainings and visioning sessions throughout the year and the amplification of their voices through different local and national media outlets. Youth Leaders have been active in developing and implementing multiple direct actions, and they have garnered widespread media attention for their efforts. Among their successes was the publication of op-eds, locally and nationally, calling for the closure of youth prisons.

Additionally, FFLIC has been a State Partner with the Youth First Justice Collaborative over the past three years. The national youth-led movement to end youth incarceration and reinvest in community-based solutions is deeply aligned with FFLIC’s overarching goals. This partnership offers a comprehensive array of training for youth and staff, youth and adult peer exchange, and technical assistance from social justice experts.  The #NoMorePrisons campaign is the umbrella for all our abolition and youth justice work including the recent #NoKidsInAngola Campaign, which ended in 2025.
