EDUCATION TOOLKIT
The school-to-prison-pipeline is a discriminatory and overly punitive system that targets the most vulnerable youth. Even minor school infractions can lead BIPOC and/or special needs children into a downward spiral of system involvement. In over 20 years of experience, FFLIC has learned that parents are best at knowing how to help their child. We wanted to provide them with information and tools to make them more successful at advocating for their child’s education rights and navigating the disciplinary process. Our “Education Toolkit,” created in 2019, is designed to help parents figure out next steps– wherever they are at–and what support is available. The goal of the toolkit is to build knowledge that could help a parent advocate for their child and all children.
The Education Toolkit is made up of three parts:
- Know the System
- Challenge the System
- Change the System
Within each part, FFLIC provides one-pagers of information that address common questions and issues, and includes options for advocacy. A parent or advocate can read and use the one-pagers needed and skim or skip the information that is not needed.
Our 2019 Education Toolkit is still available for request by filling out the form below; however we will be updating and publishing an updated toolkit soon.
