Dear Supporters,

The results of this election have left many of us, especially Black communities and our allies, feeling a deep sense of loss, hurt, and fear for what lies ahead. But in the face of what we believe will be an escalation of harm, oppression, and inequity, it is essential that we come together and stay grounded in our mission– to fight for youth and families impacted by youth incarceration, to disrupt systems of injustice, and to build a society that truly values Black lives and futures. This mission has never been more urgent, and the stakes are higher than ever. We know that systemic racism and the criminalization of Black youth are deeply woven into the fabric of this country, but with policies and rhetoric that dehumanize, exclude, and punish in the name of “tough on crime” approaches and public safety, we are seeing these harmful forces growing stronger and more accepted.

Now is the time for us to harness our collective power. History shows us that Black-led movements have transformed society in moments even more challenging than this. We are especially mindful of the power and vision that women of color have brought to the forefront of justice work. As a Black and female led organization, we draw strength from the dedication of other women of color in this movement and our foremothers, all of whom have been overlooked and underestimated. We hold deep gratitude for Vice President Kamala Harris, who has broken barriers as the first Black, South Asian, and female Vice President. Her presence in the highest levels of leadership serves as a powerful reminder that women of color have been and continue to be central to the progress of this nation.

Together, we are building a future for the next generation, one where they are not shackled by the injustices that limit opportunities, fracture families, and deny dignity.

To our supporters and our allies, and everyone who has poured their heart into this mission: we want you to know our commitment to dismantling these oppressive systems is not defined by one election. We will continue to advocate for policies that center justice, healing, and opportunity for our youth and families.

We also urge you to take care of yourselves and each other in the coming days. This work requires a fierce commitment, but it also requires self-compassion and collective support. As we process the results of this election, please know that you are not alone. We are here, standing in solidarity with you, honoring the voices, the stories, and the vision of those who have been impacted by the cruel machinery of injustice in this country.

We are shaping a vision of a future that is not only possible but necessary. Our children, our youth, and our communities deserve a world that values them, honors their humanity, and invests in their potential. Let us continue to rise, rooted in love and committed to a vision of a world without prisons.

Sincerely,

The FFLIC Team
