Yet, in Louisiana, already higher-than average suspensions and expulsion rates have been on the rise over the past decade as state and local zero-tolerance policies have imposed harsh punishment for minor childhood and adolescent misbehavior. In Louisiana there are over 300,000 suspensions each year.
